Best wishes to all my students – past, ongoing and new. Just a note to let you know all classes will be ending next week (November 20th) for the Xmas season. I hope to see you all back next year. I will be taking reservations for classes in Parksville which will start in February. Please call 250 757 2361 to reserve a spot for. . . I am thinking either Friday morning or afternoon. If there are enough reservations I am willing to do a Thursday morning/afternoon as well. The” Whatever Show” will be getting into full swing for May in the New Year. We had fun last year with “Whatever Floats Your Boat” so I’m already excited to see what we all do with the next inspiration photo. You will be able to pick up your copy of the picture in February. Remember you can paint all of it or some of it in any style you choose. You are allowed more than one painting for hanging. The entrance fee is 2 bucks per painting, and of course we will have a show! All the best to you all, elissa anthony/MonElissa Studio/ Retreat Update: ![]() The three-part Island seascape commission installed along my clients' stairway.
I finally finished this commission piece. I will be going to Calgary on the 20th of Oct to hang it and to be present at the “unveiling”. Yikes – sounds very grand! I only did the finishing bits on the painting yesterday, so will wait a few days for it to dry before I varnish it with retouch varnish. ![]() Finished Seascape Commission I wasn’t happy with the seaweed and ended up adding a few rocks in the front to shove the seaweed back a bit. I think I made to much detail in the weed originally so needed to create some depth. The tree leaning forward like that brings your eye directly into the painting and allows your eyes to rest on the sand which then takes you to the waters edge. Personally I could sit and look at this painting for hours. I find it restful yet dynamic. The movement in the sky and mountains compliment the horizontal direction of the sand. Most of the direction in the painting of the logs leads ones eye into the scene. The palette will compliment the clients existing colour scheme and should satisfy their need for bold colour. The three panels are anchored together by the ocean which remains constant throughout the piece. The only difference being the height of where the water was painted on all three panels. All in all I am very very pleased with the outcome. Instead of marring the front of each panel and breaking the flow with my signature I chose to sign on the side of each piece. These are wraps and signing on the side makes perfect sense to me. elissa anthony ~ living large in Bowser BC |
